In his first year of primary school, Jacob Schutte was asked what instrument he would like to learn.  When he chose drums, he set himself on a path that is already opening-up amazing opportunities in music.

The 20 year old from Warragul has been performing with Golden Guitarists Tom Curtain, Steve Passfield and Mike ‘Fettler’ Kerin, as well as Luke Austen, Amber Joy Poulton, Meg Doherty and The Sherrahs.

Being selected as a percussionist for the 2017 Victorian State Schools Spectacular provided Jacob with an invaluable insight into large scale performances.

2017 also took Jacob interstate, performing at a jazz competition at James Morrison’s Generations in Jazz festival in Mt Gambier, playing at the Merimbula Jazz Festival and drumming for The Sherrahs in Adelaide.

In early 2018, Jacob was chosen by renown Australian music producer Chong Lim to play at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, at an Australia Day event which honoured legendary Australian personalities including Bert Newton, Ray Martin and Kerri-Anne Kennerley.

During that year, Jacob played for Golden Guitarist Steve Passfield’s hand-picked band alongside Mike ‘Fettler’ Kerin in the Mildura Country Music Festival, and backed artists including Aleyce Simmonds and Gina Timms during the busy week.

2019 began with Jacob performing many shows at the Tamworth Country Music Festival for artists such as Amber Joy Poulton and The Sherrahs, while making connections with many other artists that would set up his busiest year yet.

Jacob has already toured with Tom Curtain on the Speak Up tour around Australia, and has played for Meg Doherty on her What’s Mine is Yours tour, with more tours to come.

During the week you will find Jacob teaching his drum skills to many bright young students.  Just as he had the opportunity to discover his love of drumming at a young age, Jacob can now pass this passion on to other young aspiring musicians.
